- William Plumer Fowler practiced probate law in both Massachusetts and New Hampshire, but his passion was poetry. He was befriended by Ogden Nash, who wrote forewords to "New England Sonnets" and "Landmarks," Fowler's collections of poetry. An Anglophile, he studied the known works of Edward de Vere, Earl of Oxford, and focused on parallels between Oxford's letters and Shakespeare's works. He wrote his own poetry that captured his love of New England, which he explored both on foot and by water. At one time or another, he served as president of the Boston Authors Club, Shakespeare Club of Boston, and Appalachian Mountain Club. He lived for many years at Little Boar's Head near Hampton Beach, New Hampshire.
