Mother Mary Francis, P.C.C., (1921-2006) was for more than forty years the abbess of the Poor Clare Monastery of Our Lady of Guadalupe in Roswell, New Mexico. She is recognized as an authoritative voice for contemplative spirituality, prayer, and the renewal of religious life. Mother Mary Francis gives us a fresh look at one of the oldest arts--friendship. Long before you have finished the book, you will know that the author really means it. She goes to the source of love and invites you to accompany her.

One of the best books about religious life there is, in my not so humble opinion. It shows the spirit of Poor Clares very beautifully, but also realistically... the sacrifice, the joy, the love. Older publications have an awesome chapter about the life of extern sisters.

Read this book on advice of a friend. St. Colette was an anchoress for a couple years or more. This intrigued the hermit in me, and the full text of this book gave light to this mystic, visionary's amazing, focused, sacrificial life. Yes, she was soon called from her anchorhold--the walls literally blasted open by Divine Intervention, and St. Colette was made to obey Jesus' call to reform the Franciscan order, then just a couple centuries from its inception--already frayed from what St. Francis of Assisi had founded. St. Colette turned things around in her time period, France, early 15th century.… (mehr)
