She has illustrated two books for children, King Arthur and the Knights of the Round Table and Robin Hood. Her first published work was a biography of Charlotte Brontë and her family (1988). Her book A People’s History of Britain (2003) was chosen by the Tubridy Show on Irish radio to be one of its Books of the Decade.
