This book is an interesting bit of Americana. Note the 1916 date and the patriotic reference before the title page. Well illustrated, there are reference in the book to about any minor to medium-serious medical problem likely to be encountered at home. Note the concerns that might be listing in a contemporary version such as heart attacks and strokes are not listed. This book was a great comfort to many families, such as mine, in an era when there was no 911, most homes were rural, trips to the hospital were rare, and calling on a doctor was an expense to be avoided. Are some of the home remedies still valid - perhaps not always the best answer when comprehensive drug stores prevail in most communities but usually better than nothing, while inexpensive and comporting. Note that each chapter opens with a story, engaging to a child reader, although parents usually applied the suggested remedies.… (mehr)
