Kurt Ganzl has authored a number of books on the history of the musical theatre, including the standard reference work in the field, the three-volume The Encyclopedia of the Musical Theatre; Ganzl's Book of the Musical Theatre; Ganzl's Book of the Broadway Musical; the pictorial Song and Dance; and mehr anzeigen the textbook The Musical: A Concise History. Gänzl's book of the musical theatre von Kurt Gänzl
A fitting companion to "Kobbe's", focusing on operetta and musical theatre of the early-to-mid 20th century. In some ways a more useful research volume, since these genres are inevitably more ephemeral than opera, and thus many of these works have largely disappeared from our consciousness. A weighty tome, and a useful addition to the bookshelf of anyone interested in the history of light opera and its younger progeny.
