the substance of this booklet was delivered by the Author as a Discourse to the Royal Institution of Great Britain.

Great table at back of book, showing airborne duration times for powered aeroplanes between 1903 and 1908. It includes one on October 14th 1906, at Issy, duration, three fifths of a second, distance 6 metres. Reading the book, I realise that the early days of flying in a powered, sustained and controlled way were not that long ago. The first Orvill and Wilbur Wright of this kind was in December 1903 and the first passenger flight of over one hour, piloted by Wilbur Wright, was in October 1908.
