Well written overall with a good balance of text and images, and short definitions or explanations on each page, to help with comprehension. There is a variety of images, ranging from official portraits to photographs i.e. Mount Vernon. Two passages caught my attention; the first, where the word "plantation" is defined and slavery is not mentioned at all, and the second, when he is said to have gotten sick "with a bad sore throat" and because of a lack of medicine, he died. I can sort of understand not including a reference to slavery but it could still be done for children this young. However, I think the passage about having a sore throat and then dying from it could cause alarm in young children. Overall, this is a solid book and part of a great series for children.… (mehr)
