Michael J. Glauser

Mr. Glauser offers interviews with some of the most successful entrepreneurs in America with discussions as to why they were successful in creating a thriving business. He offers a list of ten checkpoints that everyone starting a business should remember and act on. These points are very simple to understand and illustrated well through the interviews. Each point is accompanied by the stories of three people who accidentally created thriving businesses. They didn't set out with gobs of money and a business plan. Most of the time they just discovered a need they could fill and the next thing they knew, they had a thriving business. Granted there was a lot of sweat and work in between.

This book gives me a lot of hope for my chances of someday creating a successful business. But, it also gives me a dose of reality. For example, he stresses the necessity of having a passion for the business. I can't think of anything I have that passion for as of yet. Perhaps the closest is woodworking, but I don't think I am quite ready for that in my life. One of the other points I like about this book as it just isn't a research project by an academic who hasn't owned their own business. Glauser and his wife built a very successful frozen yogurt business. (He also has the academic background, too.) This sense of credibility is wonderful. I like the cross section of interviews he uses, too, pulling from not only varying backgrounds, but sizes of businesses, too. Very good read.… (mehr)
