Ben Goldstein

I hadn't read a comic book in some years, so this was a different experience from what I had been used to. Ben Goldstein did a wonderful job with his, "Save Our Animal Friends: A World Patrol Kids Environmental Adventure Story and Activity Book." I will say that it is a little violent towards animals, but some of us parents don't sugarcoat it for the children. It focuses mainly on the poaching aspect of what happens to the animals to put them in danger but does touch on other aspects of endangerment also.

I believe this is a lesson that children need to learn no matter how hard it is to learn it. I also think Goldstein did it in a way that would be less traumatic for children to learn than to watch a documentary showing it happen. I could see this becoming a comic that all children want to read and start up their own "World Patrol Kids" action group. The activities in the back of the comic are pretty good too and would be a lot of fun for children. I recommend it for anyone who wants an easy way to break the bad news of how badly animals can be treated, but if you are more sensitive to allowing your children to read a comic that contains violence against animals you might want to read it before reading it to your children. Still, I think it's a good thing to tell children so they grow up knowing the truth and want to ensure protection for the animals that are most affected.… (mehr)
