This book is short and sweet. It is not written in any traditional step by step format, instead it reads like a story/poem. It teaches kids to do something so simple in such a simple way. Make a Valentine is composed of simple words and short sentences. We all know kids have very short attention spans yet I feel they can be successful at not only reading this book but recreating one just like it. If I were the teacher, my writing prompt would be focused on the items involved in the process first. For example: "To make a peanut butter and jelly sandwich you will need..." and have the kids throw out their ideas. Next we'd talk about the steps, then we'd order the steps, then we'd illustrate the process.… (mehr)
