A wonderful story told in spare and beautiful language. I can't wait to find out what happens next to the characters in the rest of the trilogy.

n the sparest of language Gordon manages to flesh out relate-able characters. I really enjoyed her dryest of wit. And found the underlying message sublime

I was never one for historical fiction, but this series draws heavily on Roman history; it gives an excellent idea of everyday Roman life for soldier, citizen and slave alike.
