Sarah Gorham

A good collection of poems, although naturally (as is the case with me and poetry books) some succeded more than others. A lot of lovely turns of phrase and some truly stellar, heartrending poems mixed in with some 'okay' and some poems that did not touch my heart at all. Which is not to fault Miss Gorham's writing for not being in my usual reading comfort zone; each poem is immaculately crafted with clear skill and devotion. Also, the collection ended on a wonderful and deep hitting poem that still rings on within me after I closed the book. If that isn't the mark of a great poet then I don't know what is. More of a 3.5 than a 4, but it deserves the rounding up, with slight caveats.… (mehr)
