I have read a number of very positive reviews about this book, but unfortunately it didn't do it for me. I found the plot slow and a bit disjointed and I never developed a deep understanding of the two boys. The book is divided into three parts and the only one I really enjoyed was the second part, where the two boys meet. I don't think this will have wide appeal for YA readers, although I can see English teachers being interested in this book.
Omed has to escape Afghanistan as he fears for his life. He becomes a refugee in Australia and meets Hec a young Australian man suffering from family trauma. Both are silent for different reasons, but both learn to overcome their personal tragedies.
The Ink Bridge is the compelling story of two young men: Omed, an Afghani refugee who flees the Taliban and undertakes a perilous journey to seek asylum in Australia; and Hector, an Australian boy afflicted by grief, who has given up on school and retreated into silence.
