Eric Grissom

A pair of young super-powered heroes (supposedly teens, but they seemed younger) find their mission derailed when they crash land on a planet they don't recognize. In order to find their way back on route, they must battle strange creatures and make alliances based solely on blind faith.

I read this book a while back and didn't get around to reviewing it at the time, which was a mistake. I've found I've already forgotten most of it, which is a judgment right there in itself. As I recall, the book basically begins in media res, with the reader trying to play catch up and figure out who and what is going on. The superhero siblings, perhaps true to their young age, are impetuous and often act before thinking, leading to nearly disastrous results. They never seem to learn from this mistake and continue to leap before they look, which I'm not sure is the best message to send to this graphic novel's young audience.

The illustrations convey a lot of action, but they are a little too cartoon-like for me. Interspersed in the chief bulk of the story are little side one-shot stories, which I found distracting more than anything else. The main plot is clearly leading up to a bigger arc with a follow-up book (or books), but I'm not interested enough to pursue future titles at any point. This just wasn't really my cup of tea; I'd prefer more explanation and character development over mindless action sequences.… (mehr)
