"Disrupted Borders' reflects "otherness" and attempts to escape from the European rhetoric of modernism. It endoreses the plurality of art-making practices and proposes a "new internationalism." This book and the exhibition that accompanies it seeks to break through divisions and boundaries that Eurocentric culture tells us are fixed and natural, but deny the validity of diverse experiences. "Disrupted Borders" explores the cultural challenges offered by "the others" of western culture: immigrants, women, the so-called underclass, the sexually 'queer' and the disabled.'
