Harley Hahn has won praise for his entertaining, informative, and hugely popular books on computers and the Internet. Hahn earned an undergraduate degree in mathematics and computer science from the University of Waterloo, Canada, and a graduate computer science degree from the University of mehr anzeigen California at San Diego. He studied medicine at the University of Toronto Medical School before deciding to write professionally. He is best known for Harley Hahn's Internet & Web Yellow Pages (fifth edition, 1998). The first Internet book to sell more than a million copies, it is widely considered an indispensable resource to the wonders of cyberspace. His goal was not only to show Internet users the best sites to explore, but to guide them to related subjects that interest them, and help them to use the Web to its fullest potential. In addition to a comprehensive list of categories and subcategories to topics on the Net, the book includes many samplings from Web sites and news groups, along with whimsical features, such as a list of "25 things to do on the Net when you should be working." Az Emacsot nagyjából örökké lehet tanulni (kedvenc idézetem a könyvből: "If you want to master Emacs, it helps to believe in reincarnation, because there is no way you are going to learn it all in a single lifetime.") így gondoltam megnézem mennyit lehet tanulni manapság egy könyvből. A könyv elég lassan indul, hosszú bevezetést kapunk az Emacs és a Unix történetéről, ez egyrészt érdekes, másrészt viszont nem hiszem, hogyha valaki az Emacs alapokat akarja megtanulni, akkor tényleg feltétlenül fontos a VT-100-as terminálról olvasnia. Később jönnek a hasznosabb részek, kicsit össze-vissza sorrendben (nem igazán létezik jó sorrend) sok hasznosat tanulunk Emacsról. A könyv mindig kellően részletes, jól érthető. Bár régóta használom a programot, sok hasznosat tanultam belőle.

אמנם זה לא בדיוק ספר קריאה, וגם לא בכל אחד מ-818 העמודים יש מה לקרוא, אך כמיטב המסורת אני מצרף גם את הספר הזה לרשימה. מה עוד שהוא העסיק אותי במשך לפחות חצי שנה והיה ללא ספק אחד הספרים שהשפיעו ביותר על חיי - לפחות כאן - בזה שהוא פתח בפני את שערי האינרנט.
