An introverted wolf is dragged out of his pleasant life of reading books and studying astronomy and botany and forced to learn about friendship, community, responsibility, and sharing. In other words, dragged into hell.

I could almost concede the point of the story, until the final line when the author tells us that somehow the wolf is able to incorporate a new active social life while reading as many or more books and discovering as many or more plants and stars. I can only infer that the wolf rarely sleeps because it now has an intense cocaine habit . . . and that is just not appropriate in a children's book.… (mehr)

Op een avond houdt Joris’ lampje op met schijnen. Wat eraan schort, weet hij niet. Hij legt dus maar zijn boek weg en gaat slapen. Na een tijdje wordt Joris wakker van het geroffel op zijn venster. Er staat een piepklein mannetje voor zijn raam. Het ventje komt de lamp herstellen. ‘Wij doen alles!’ legt het uit. ‘Straatlantaarns, rioolverlichting, koplampen, zaklantaarns, mijnwerkerslampen, de sterren en de zon.’ Ook de zon? Joris begrijpt het niet zo goed. Maar één ding wordt toch meteen duidelijk: de ontmoeting met het mannetje is de start van een reeks rare gebeurtenissen.… (mehr)
