This is a big, heavy book. It is a reference book, not a handbook. Fortunately, you can usually find what you're looking for without consulting the index. The font size used in the three separate indexes (Command, Function, and Topic) are too tiny for my tired old eyes, anyway.

The book is divided into eight parts: (1) Preliminary Considerations, (2) Spreadsheet Commands, (3) Spreadsheet Formulas and Functions, (4) Database Management, (5) Creating and Using Graphics, (6) Printing and Plotting, (7) Macros and the Macro Command Language, and (8) Using Lotus 1-2-3 with Other Programs.

The scope of the book is broad. It covers all aspects of using Lotus 1-2-3, both Release 1A and Release 2.

The minimum hardware and software requirements for running Lotus 1-2-3 Release 2 are: 256K RAM, DOS 2.x or higher, and 8087 or 80287 CPU. The maximum number of spreadsheet cells is 2 million. The maximum column width is 240 bytes. The maximum database size is 256 fields and 8191 records.

As of October 2008, I am still a satisfied user of Lotus 1-2-3 for DOS, Release 2.3. It works just fine on my Windows XP machine in a DOS emulation window. I can share spreadsheets with my decrepit, ten-year-old laptop running Windows 98SE.… (mehr)
