Trained at the Slade, exhibited regularly at many venues including the Royal Academy in London. He also designed posters for the LNER and LMS railway companies, and his art was featured in many magazines of the day including the Illustrated London News and The Tatler.
He was a prolific painter of British landscapes in watercolour and is perhaps best remembered for illustrating 36 volumes of the well-known "Beautiful England" series of travel books published by Blackie and Son Limited. [Wikipedia]

Rezensionen

This short book leads the reader through the Scotland depicted by Sir Walter Scott. John Geddie peppers his descriptions with Scott's poetry. Paintings by E. W. Haslehust adds an interesting dimension, making the slender volume a treat for those who love the arts.

These are the most exquisite little books -- descriptions of a landscape and time that are long erased by the convulsions of modern development. The paintings of E.W. Haslehust alone are worth seeing.

This is abook I have known almost as I long as I can read. How strange its influence on my image of London, a city I have never visited, nor probably ever shall. SAnd all the strange -- and often grizzly anecdotes -- adduced here pouring into the head of a youngster with little knowledge or history, and none of the mighty tradition of English literature. To some extent, I suppose that is irrelevant,as I don't need to have been there to know that London has changed immensely in the decades since this book. A good read, but more, another banquet of painting from the gifted water-colourist Haslehust.… (mehr)

Unusual format. Looks like the large type and line spacing were needed to expand Geddie's text to accomodate Haslehust's 12 magnificent paintings. Would be interesting to know who has the originals.
