The book documents several quite important manuscripts (notably Gregory's 1241 and 1881) and dozens more that are simply additional examples of the Byzantine text found in most late (but very few early) New Testament manuscripts.
It should be noted that this is only a catalog. If you want to know what 1881 looks like, you will find the information here. You will not find out much about 1881's text -- certainly not that it is, after 1739, the best representative of the very valuable type of text found in 1739. Hatch gives a few comments about major additions and omissions -- e.g. the notes to Sinai 155 (Gregory 1192) mention that it omits John 7:53-8:11 and that it has a note casting some doubt about Mark 16:9-20. This is not a defect; textual analysis is a different task, and so is collation. What this book does, it does well. But only look for it if you want to learn physical details about the manuscripts at Sinai. If you want to study their texts, you'll have to try other sources -- or maybe go look at them yourself. Certainly it would be nice if someone would publish a detailed examination, including a collation or a diplomatic transcription, of 1881, and also 1241 and 1243. But, if nothing else, this volume will help you prepare before you go to do that work.… (mehr)
