- Maud Doria Haviland was born in Tamworth in Warwickshire, England and became an ornithologist. She married Harold Hulme Brindley, a fellow of St John's College, Cambridge. Haviland was the author of A Summer on the Yenesei (1915), which describes her experiences and impressions about nature and birds on an expedition down the Yenisei River in Siberia to the Kara Sea. On the journey she was accompanied by Polish anthropologist Maria Antonina Czaplicka, painter Dora Curtis, and Henry Usher Hall of the Philadelphia University Museum.
