It's not great literature (some of it was rather cliche, the characters predictable and defined by their one character flaw/feature), but I did enjoy reading it and swallowed it all in one morning waiting for a flight.

Former marine Rick Warren (who is 34) takes a job for the summer as assistant director at "Camp Sunny Daze" in Kentucky. He meets the camp owners' daughter (28-year-old Summer Delaney) who is working as head counselor. Sparks soon fly between the two of them. They both have strong ideas and different views on how to entertain and educate the kids. Rick wants things done in an orderly fashion while Summer just wants the kids to have fun. Rick has the boys walking in line like soldiers and getting up at the crack of dawn to take nature walks, while Summer is playing Fairy Princess with the girls. Summer wishes her parents would've hired someone else besides Rick. But Summer is also finding herself attracted to him.

Summer is eager to make things work at the camp because she was the one who persuaded her parents to buy it in the first place because she loved going to the camp as a child. Now her parents are having financial difficulties and hire Rick to help out. Summer is happy to be working as head counselor. But unfortunately Summer and Rick have clashing views on how to run things at the camp...

Summer was a bit of a wild child in her youth. She wasn't very responsible. Her parents bailed her out of trouble many times. But she has been trying to make a fresh start and to be more reliable. I liked when Summer did her "fairy princess" routine/act for the girls, it was sweet and cute. (Summer runs her own business, "Fairy Princess Parties").

Rick takes things more seriously since being in Afghanistan and losing a good friend there. (He also suffers from PTSD). So he wanted the boys and girls to have some discipline in their life.

Summer and Rick were opposites attracting. But they balanced each other out quite nicely and made a lovely couple. I really enjoyed the camp setting in this book. It was fun. I also liked the kids and the suspense and drama towards the end of the book.

This was a great summer read.
