This is really a fascinating work. Just as coups are almost always perpetuated by 'insiders,' so it is true of "self-coups" where one branch of the government attacks another. This book investigates this phenomenon in Latin America; although the regional limitation would seem to be a weakness, in fact there's good reasoning for that, in that it helps eliminate exogenous factors and looks at "repeatable" circumstances often lacking in other contexts. The model could potentially be applied worldwide, though, which I find particularly fascinating.… (mehr)
