This academic article introduces a preface Martin Luther wrote to a Latin translation of the Qur'an published in 1553. To his credit, Luther didn't believe in censorship; he belived that anyone reading it would see how awful it was in comparison to Christian scripture. To his discredit, he doesn't really appear to have read it very well and his tirades are not well supported. Furthermore, he sees to detest Jews and Catholics, whom he calls Papists, just as much or perhaps more than Muslims. Perhaps if we were to take everything bad that adherents of one religion say about another and compile them, we'd have a more true picture of ALL religions. In any case, in his tirade, Luther proves himself to be an intolerant, bigoted ignoramus.… (mehr)
