A very important day is just that, it is a very important day to many of people in this book. This is a heartwarming book about people from many of places like Mexico, Egypt, Greece, Russia, and many more places who have been waiting for this special day to finally become a United States Citizen. This is very special because in this book 219 people from 32 different countries came together in a court room to officially become a U.S citizen that day. I think that this is a good book to read to students when studying this material in social studies to help them understand a little better why this was so important for these people. This was their chance at a better life. In the book the people would mention things like “we don’t have this back home, or I never get this at home.” This shows that back home wherever they are from they do not have this luxury, even if it was something as simple as waffles. Becoming a citizen of the United States is an important day for many people. “A Very Important Day” tells the story of in multiple perspectives of families from different countries who are excited for this special day. To make this important day even better, the newcomers experience snow for the first time. The families all then go to the courthouse to sign papers and vow they will be loyal citizens to the United States. In the end, the families celebrate officially being a part of their new country. This is a wonderful story that explains the process of becoming a citizen of the United States and the excitement people have to be a part of this free country. I love how the author has a page at the end of the book describing the process and guidelines there are to become a citizen of the United States. I also love how the book was not only in the perspective of one specific culture coming to America, but various cultures. Overall, this was an interesting story. It is a great book to read to children when learning about immigration.… (mehr)
