Alma Hershberger

I've read and enjoyed a lot of Amish fiction and nonfiction so when I came upon this little book, I knew I had to grab it. I won't say that I totally regret the time I spent reading it---but it wasn't that great. Mainly, I felt really uncomfortable reading the very intimate and sensitive stories about her family that was still living at the time of publication and is likely still living now. Even though she had some hurt in her life, I think she was a little crass in calling people out as blatantly as she did.

The book wasn't super well-written. She interjects random thoughts in the middle of unrelated stories and repeats herself often. It's probably fine for the local tourist market but it's not something I would have spent money on had I known it wasn't a well-edited book.

The author has a big imagination and several of the stories seem pretty far-fetched. Still, it was interesting to find that her family lived near Pryor, OK at one time as that is a place I've gone "Amish stalking"...ha! Many of the stories were interesting---despite the rightly-named jerk face Uncle Judas stiffing them all the time.… (mehr)
