Monique Raphel High has published six novels: The Four Winds of Heaven (a roman � clef based on her own grandmother's life), Encore, The Keeper of the Walls, Thy Father's House, The Eleventh Year and Between Two Worlds as well as a nonfiction book. She is the founder of WriteHigh, a literary management firm with an international clientele and offices in London and Paris. Before launching the firm in 1997, she taught at the UCLA Extension Writers Program and now serves as writing coach, editor and teacher through her website, WriteHigh.com . A Parisian who lives in Los Angeles, High is the granddaughter of a Russian Baroness, Sofia Sara de Gunzburg. High was brought up in Paris, Rome and Amsterdam in a literary milieu--her mother, Dina Raphel, was one of the agents of Irwin Shaw and James Jones. She was also a movie brat, as her father, David Raphel, was in the film business. She is fluent in French, Spanish, Rumanian and Italian.

A love triangle linking a Russian prima ballerina, an artist, and the bisexual backer of Diaghilev's Ballets Russes as the illustrious troupe travels through Europe.
A well-written historical novel with its theme being the Russian ballet in the period shortly before and after the revolution. The author bases her work on historical fact and also her own family history. The main main characters are fictional. She describes a world which was unique and resplendent for those who lived in its upper echelons. Though the society she describes is no longer with us, it does live on in a legacy of great works of art, both past and current.… (mehr)
