Who's in Mama's Chair? von Eileen Hill
Subtitled "Loving a Parent with Alzheimer's", this book is written about one of my own mother's oldest friends. Heartbreaking and yet uplifting, this book presents the many faces of people with this terrible disease and made me appreciate my own aging mother even more.
I read the Robin Kane series in the late '60s shortly after the books were published. I enjoyed reading about girls who were near to my own age, and enjoyed the adventures that they found themselves in. At the time, I recall they were my favorite books, and I believe that I enjoyed them more than Nancy Drew, as they were more modern day at the time.
Recently, I purchased the series to read to my two sons. They also enjoyed this book, although perhaps not as much as the Hardy Boys.
Although I did enjoy reading them 40 years later, as an adult they didn't quite stand the test of time for me. The characters were not as developed as I would have liked, and as a parent, I kept wondering why they did some of the things they did (e.g. going after a man with a gun who said he would shoot them if they came back.) However, I'm sure that they would still be very enjoyable to tween girls who like mystery and adventure.… (mehr)
