Mother's Milk von Rachel Hunt Steenblik
For anyone who searches for the Divine Feminine, this is a must read. The poems are exemplary thought-stirrers, and I loved the list of inspiration source-texts at the end of the book. That list is an invitation to read more and ponder.
I loved this book. I will reread this one, probably at least once a year. Hoiland's approach to growing faith closely mirrors my own; she is a kindred spirit, which made reading this a pleasure. I especially appreciated the epilogue--I finished this book as I'm revising a draft of my own book about spirituality. While my format, ideas, and goals are different from Hoiland's, I needed the reminder that writing is fraught with obstacles, and I needed to persevere in spite of them. While this book is specific to Hoiland's LDS faith, her theme is universal, and anyone seeking a relationship with God will find gems throughout.… (mehr)
I read this over several months, a couple of pages at time, while I was waiting for my computer to start in the morning. It's an unorthodox way to read a book, but it suited this book well, because it mirrored the book's own loose structure. This is not a book to power through to reach a grand conclusion. Rather, slowly sample this excellent collection of meditations on life, faith, and family.
