Anne Holler

This is a very readable, heavily illustrated biography of Pocahontas, and also explains her times and the political situation. It is intended as juvenile literature, but I would recommend it for anyone wanting a basic understanding of the time and place. It would be a good book to read before heading off to a trip to Jamestown. W. David Baird contributes an introduction "On Indian Leadership", explaining that the description of Powhatan as a king, and Pocahontas as a princess is the result of imposing European notions on a political system that was actually quite different.… (mehr)
