A mysterious plague wipes out most of the population leaving a few survivors to carry on. Autumn Winters is the daughter of a movie star and is one of the survivors. Left alone in her home she struggles to survive. After trusting the wrong people she learns about the different factions in the city. Along with her newfound family, Autumn tries to stay hidden from The Front, while they look for a place to live.
Autumn is a great character, stubborn and strong, she's a survivor. The story doesn't drag but gets straight into the action. While it is listed as YA I think anyone of any age would be happy to read it. I would definitely recommend this book and I look forward to reading the sequel.… (mehr)

This book was given to me through member's giveaway in exchange for a review. Thank you.
Plague hits Earth, most people die. The few survivors are natural immunity types. Those who survived stay hidden, wanting no contact with the infected or the predators who roam the streets, taking from those weaker, killing as they please.
Autumn is the daughter of wealth. She stays alone in a well stocked penthouse that is secure against invaders. Dangerous gangs roam the neighborhood. She watches as one man hunts a young boy and kills him for his backpack. Finally her food and water run low and she goes in search of supplies. She is seen and chased by the man she fears, escaping with the help of an unknown boy. She meets another teen and his little sister, forming a family unit with them. After nearly a year the area is picked clean of food and water. Time to move on. While out scouting Ben and Autumn become separated. Ben returns to the penthouse but Autumn is chased into the subway. There she meets another group including the boy who saved her, Gray. Their survival story continues with a few surprises and lots of action. There is no conclusion, just continued on in the next book.
This book is an ok read but contains some jarring elements. The romance felt like a silly fantasy dreamed up by a very young teen. After all, the author gave us a 17 year old girl and a several hundred year old boy. Differences in age and experiences too much. Autumn' s fight scenes were pretty unbelievable too. Not leaving her penthouse for all.most a year but able to outrun and outright men who were out on the streets and fighting every day. And with 300 other apartments in her building , why did she have to wait for Ben to show up before she looked there for supplies?

I received this book for free from the author in exchange for an honest review. This in no way affected my opinion of the book, or the content of my review.

Genre: Dystopian YA

One day everyone seventeen-year-old Autumn knows gets sick and dies. Almost everyone, everywhere gets sick and dies in the span of a day. Autumn, the daughter of a famous movie star, doesn't too much struggle with day-to-day survival. It's not that kind of apocalypse. She's safe in her penthouse apartment at the top of a high tower in downtown Burbank, where the electricity continues to work and there's a large stash of warehouse-club food. Loneliness drives her to leave the safety of her apartment in response to a radio broadcast, and that's when the story really gets going.

I really enjoyed this book. There are two sequels, Autumn in the Dark Meadow and Autumn in the City of Lights. I bought both and read them immediately after finishing this book. That's my recommendation. I bought the sequels. I enjoyed them. So go read it!

Really enjoyed this book. If not for the last paragraph, it would have got 5 stars. The last paragraph is the cliff hanger and had me wanting to throw my ereader.

But Autumn is the shy, stand offish kind of girl, in the beginning. Living on her own after the plague. Then the mysterious man comes along. Turns out it's Grey and he's more than he seems. The story takes a more sci-fi turn about half way through but it word and adds more to the story. Then along the way we meet Rissi, the lil girl anyone would want to see as a sister. Then there's Ben, that's a can of worms you will have to see for yourself, is he the protective brother type, or staking his claim type? Then there's Todd, who can't help but like Todd? Haha. Oh and can't forget cold as ice, stick in the mud Lydia, but don't worry you find out why she is like that. Then Connie, the mommy figure to all, who has to look after the bunch. And Shad, the pesky younger brother figure. I don't think I forgot any good guys. Because you know there's villains right? The bad side after the fall, Karl. No one likes Karl. Except Sam and that's because she's as bad as he is and not have a bone to pick with Autumn , but for different reasons.

I received a copy in exchange for an honest review.
