Pinky Hull

This is a collection of five sketches about the life of ragtime piano player Pinky Hull. My personal favorite is "When Galveston Was Grand," his coming-of-age story in 1940s Galveston, Texas. Pinky's personal favorite was "The Great Raft Trip" about the time in 1948 that he and his friend, Putsy, built a raft and took a one-month trip down Louisiana's Atchafalaya River. The original title for the collection was Confessions of a Cat House Piano Player. Pinky's publisher nixed that. He said it was too racy for Pinky's many fans in retirement communities in Florida and California and at his popular shows in Branson, Missouri in the 1990s during his last years.… (mehr)
