In the first installment in the Seventh Son trilogy by JC Hutchins, the action starts fast and furiously. There is the drawing of the clones of John Alpha, who have been called upon by the government to stop the original John Alpha who the clones are based off of. The action starts with the assassination of the president of the United States using some crazy, high tech equipment.

This novel basically sets the table for what is going to happen later. There are a lot of action and ideas that are brought to the table. One of the things that I like about this novel and the series is the disparate nature of the clones. Even though they are based off of the same person, they have very different personalities. Some of the technology that Hutchins references is very neat. Some of it is so out there that it really defies the realm of believability, so it’s a little hit or miss for me. I enjoyed the writing style, which tends to be frantic at times. It was an enjoyable novel and a good start to the series.

This first part sets up the premise in a way which leaves me wanting to see what happens next. The second part is already out, and I guess I'm left with no choice but to read that soon as well.

A few more episodes down the line, I'll be interested to see whether I feel like the bite-sized consumption of this story adds to it. I have a feeling I'll be left thinking "So, why couldn't I just have read all of this at once?", but I'll be happy to be proven wrong as the series progresses.… (mehr)

You know, I didn't expect this book to be as good as it was. It's a gimmick - a pile of papers and some transmedia connections - but an effective one.
