Den amerikanske revolution og hvordan briterne satsede på at gøre Indien til teproducent i stor stil fra 1834 og frem. I 1875 var der 125000 hektar teplantager i Indien. I 1869 ramte kaffepest Ceylon og de omstillede lynhurtigt til te. Lidt om teclippere og deres skæbne efter dampskibenes fremmarch og lidt om status for tedrikningens udbredelse anno 1955.

I found this delightful and informative hardcover first edition in its original dust jacket in a thrift shop years ago. I love tea (as well as coffee), especially black tea, so reading the book always causes me to get up and make myself a cup to sip while I read.

Gervas Huxley was born in 1894, grandson of the biologist Thomas Henry Huxley. He was educated at Rugby and Oxford and held various government posts during his career, including vice-chairman of the International Tea Market Expansion Board. He spent 30 years promoting tea drinking in Britain and elsewhere and wrote and produced his first book, "Talking of Tea" in his sixties. Historical, medicinal, and cultural information about tea is tucked between the covers.… (mehr)
