The racy novella, ‘Steadfast Pursuit’ written by Alexandra Isobel ticked all the boxes of a steamy romance. Unrequited love; mysterious, handsome, but emotionally unavailable hero; multiple cliff hangers (literally) and thrills of terror and passion. Of course, what romance is complete without a strong female lead and this is provided as well.

Stepsiblings, Megan aka Red and Special Operations Soldier, Rusty Cundieff are reunited upon his return from active duty. The sexual tension between Rusty and Meghan reaches fever pitch following a harrowing escape from multiple threats through the Canadian wilderness. It’s a clash of two strong personalities when Rusty initially won’t succumb to Meghan’s advances

‘Steadfast Pursuit’ is testament to how a good dose of sex can take your mind off things. I lost myself in the action when Rusty and Red finally gave into temptation and fell between the sheets. It didn’t take me long to realise I was lost for another reason. The characters were calling each other the wrong names during their wild bedroom antics. Put it down to the editor needing a sex starved, special operations solider to come into her life as well.

If ‘Steadfast Pursuit’ is any indication of Alexandra Isobel’s other work, I’d pack a copy to take on holidays with me. They’re an easy, yet predictable read with strong characters and a great use of descriptive language that allows the reader to escape into the story.

I did not enjoy this book. I thought the sex scenes were well done and hot, but the plots were uninteresting and the romances unengaging. Overall, I would not recommend.

So this a collection of very short stories, that focus around the idea of interracial sex. I’m pretty sex positive but what I’m not is a fan of bad writing. The stories here move the needle on sex positivism, but great work of literature they are not. The first story is of a biker / bodyguard? protecting a gang leaders daughter after her college graduation was shot up by a rival gang. The second story, what is loosely my favourite, a former? Current? Navy SEAL moonlighting? a young woman. I certainly didn’t see random acts of bodyguard when I was in Afghanistan, and many of the details beyond what he was actual job was were incorrect. (Is not 01700, it’s just 1700.) The third story was about a Russian sure let’s say businessman and his wife, who is trying to leave him? And he chases her down? As I said, the plots are thin, the sex isn’t poorly written it just is enough “interracial” to check the box, but certainly this doesn’t divulge into smut. The writing doesn’t feel recent enough. The tropes in each story are predictive and not female friendly, which is disappointing coming from a female author. The prologue had a fourth story, but it seemed even messier than the three and either should have been included, or not. Much like everything else, I just didn’t see the point.… (mehr)
