Rezensionen

This book was an interesting, but basic, look into a week in the life of an NFL team. Due to the subject matter it got pretty repetitive, does LT play or doesn't he, how do we defend this, etc.. The insight into the inner workings of a team it provided was interesting enough, but nothing blew me away. Also, this was another sports book where the author tried to get way too poetic with his prose, it's just a football book buddy, take it down a notch. All in all, an enjoyable book, but at its core nothing more than a three star book.… (mehr)

Boxing isn’t my sport but this was a really well-written look at the history of some of the greatest and well-known heavyweight fighters in the last 60 years. Packed with lots of anecdotes and details, the author does a great job explaining why fighters like Ali, Frazier, Foreman, Tyson, and others were giants and legends in their sport (and how they fell, too).

I was so happy when I won this book here on GR as I have seen a number of interviews with Mr Izenberg and he seems like a very honest and fair minded sportswriter, I am also a huge fan of Joe Frazier, Floyd Patterson and Sonny Liston and they were all heavily included in the book.

I highly recommend any boxing fan or a history of boxing fan to read this book - it is not long, but it is very fair and I love his humor too !

Thank you for choosing me as a winner !

A book about Game 6 of the 1986 National League Championship Series, in which the New York Mets beat the Houston Astros 7-6 in 16 innings. If I have to explain to you why that deserves a whole book, you wouldn't want to read it anyway, but this brings back vivid memories of that October evening when all the baseball fans at my workplace in Rockefeller Center stayed in the office to watch the last couple of innings (we thought) on the TV in the conference room; we wound up staying through dinnertime (dashing out and calling our significant others to try to explain the situation -- this was before cellphones) as the game went on and on until the immortal Jesse Orozco struck out Kevin Bass and the thing was finally over. That and Game 6 of the World Series that year are my two greatest baseball memories.… (mehr)
