Jane Yolen was born February 11, 1939 in New York City. She received a bachelor's degree from Smith College in 1960 and a master's degree in education from the University of Massachusetts in 1976. After college, she became an editor in New York City and wrote during her lunch break. She sold her mehr anzeigen first children's book, Pirates in Petticoats, at the age of 22. Since then, she has written over 300 books for children, young adults, and adults. Her other works include the Emperor and the Kite, Owl Moon, How Do Dinosaurs Say Goodnight? and The Devil's Arithmetic. She has won numerous awards including the Kerlan Award, the Regina Medal, the Keene State Children's Literature Award, the Caldecott Medal, two Nebula Awards, two Christopher Medals, the World Fantasy Award, three Mythopoeic Fantasy Awards, the Golden Kite Award, the Jewish Book Award, the World Fantasy Association's Lifetime Achievement Award, and the Association of Jewish Libraries Award. Wobei Gawaine, der Älteste dem König treu ergeben ist und seine Mutter fürchtet. Der 15 jährige Agravaine dagegen, ist hitzköpfig und muss von Artus erst begeistert werden. Aber noch ein junger Mann taucht auf der Burg auf, der zarte kluge, mehrere Sprachen und des Lesens und Schreibens fähige Gawan.(Schwierigkeit des Regierens Leseprobe S. 67) Er wird schnell zur rechten Hand Merlinnus und zum Berater und Freund von Artus. Merlinnus, nun schafft einen riesegen schweren Stein, indem ein Schwert steckt. Wer dieses Schwert in der Nacht der Sonnenwende aus dem Stein zieht, soll König sein. Das ruft die Nordhexe auf den Plan, die in der Gestalt von Graugänsen mit ihrem Gefolge plötzlich auf der Burg auftaucht. Natürlich hat sie nichts gutes im Schilde. Doch Gawan kann ein Mordkomplott gegen den König vereiteln.Das Fest er Sonnenwende beginnt. Alle Ritter versuchen sich an dem Schwert, doch zum Schluss zieht es natürlich Artus heraus. Er wird als König gefeiert, merkt aber als Einziger, dass das Schwert nicht seins ist.... Ein Genuss für alle Fantasyfans. Auch erwachsene Leser haben hier ihre Freude.
