Jonathan Jansen

Important and interesting book. He includes touching stories & hopeful vignettes. Jansen's main focus in this book is looking at the white students he worked with as Dean of the Faculty of Education at U. of Pretoria. He talks about how they've had recounted to them the history of Afrikaaners but haven't lived through either the Boer War & aftermath or, mostly, under apartheid. He writes about a pedgagy for the time after the conflict. At his University language was a huge issue so he writes about that a lot, about the move to English, and the need to keep the Afrikaans speaking students enrolled.… (mehr)
