And again I had trouble adding BCID to this book. So.... here's the link to the book's details on BC: http://www.bookcrossing.com/journal/7951634/

A strange book. I found it a sad book for the most part. Small boy, living with his mum, sister and his grandparents from mothers' side, his father returning home from sea (is he really?).
The story describes the youth of a boy from his point of view. He sees many things, but because of his age he can't really grasp the meaning of it all.
He has a hard time at school, when his father returns, he starts drinking and abusing his wife / the children. Finally the grandparents call social services and the boy is taken to a foster family. He lives there for a while and when he's there, the reader starts understanding the real depth of what the boy is all going through.
He returns home and nothing has really changed.

When he is older, he meets some of his old class mates. They compare their lives now, recall what happened when they were younger. The boy in the story only finds a sort of closure, when his dad dies. Whether this still happens during his childhood or when he's grown up, or even if it is his own dad and not the story of his father finding his father dead, frozen outside, is something I did not really figure out.

A good book, tells the tale of the hard times that people / the working, lower class had just after WWII in Sweden.
