I have been consuming a lot of Love Inspired Suspense novels lately due to the fact that they are quick and satisfying reads with strong characters and clean content. Christmas Forest Ambush is no exception, and is one of my favorites in this series so far.

The action is swift and immediate, instantly plunging Lucy and Boone into a run for their lives from an unknown pursuer. Lucy is a social worker who has temporary custody of Boone, a young boy whose parents were attacked, with one dead and the other in a coma. Lucy does not like the forest (a girl after my own heart) but she is willing to fight her fears to protect young Boone from danger as they are attacked while driving through Sumter National Forest. Noah, a forest ranger who loves the woods, comes upon the pair and is thankfully able and willing to help them run from the danger.

The characters are truly what sets this novel apart from the rest of the Love Inspired Suspense novels. I cannot even begin to imagine the emotions that are coursing through poor Boone. To have your father murdered in cold blood, and your mother in a coma fighting for her life, all while being chased by someone that wants to harm or kill you…that is heavy! Then factor in his young age and it is almost too unbelievable to fathom. What I loved the most about this novel was that the three main players are not related in any form, yet they all have this automatic protectiveness for one another. With the selfishness that abounds in our culture I found this fact immensely satisfying.

Though you feel like you’re catching this story in the middle of the narrative I never once felt lost. My mind whirled with the question, “Why?” a lot, wondering who would do something like this to innocent people, especially with one of them being such a young child. These questions spurred me on, to the point that I had a hard time putting this novel down.

I truly enjoyed this novel so much and love how the author was able to paint such a vivid narrative that instantly drew me in and kept me riveted until the end. The thread of faith throughout is uplifting and the ending is satisfying. It is the perfect ending to this clean suspenseful read.

Christmas Forest Ambush by Kerry Johnson is a suspenseful story. I enjoyed getting to know Lucy Taylor, Noah Holt, and young Boone Harrington. I felt bad for the little boy whose father was murdered and mother is in a coma. Now someone seems determined to eliminate Boone and his social worker, Lucy. Lucy and Noah need to work together to keep Boone safe from the killers. The pair are kind to the five-year-old even when his actions (from not following directions) put him in danger. I liked the author’s engaging writing style. I was quickly drawn into the story and all the action kept things lively. It was an intriguing mystery, and I had a good time solving it. The author captured the setting of Sumter National Forest. I could envision the beauty of the forest as well as the feel the frigid temperatures. Faith is nicely incorporated into the story. God had a reason for bringing Lucy and Noah together. Both Lucy and Noah have issues they need to work through. It may be that they can help each other. Lucy and Boone will need Noah if they are to survive their time in the forest. I like that the romance was the slow burn type (especially since there was a child present). My favorite quote is from the author, “The Bible reminds us God is trustworthy and faithful. Jesus is the same yesterday, today, and forever.” Christmas Forest Ambush is a story that will keep you up until the wee hours.… (mehr)

Kinsley and Jasper have gone their separate ways, but when Kinsley returns to Tunnel Creek and is targeted by some dangerous men, her high school sweetheart steps in to protect her.
In Tunnel Creek Ambush, Kerry Johnson kept me guessing as to what exactly was going on throughout the story. I will admit that I figured out who was behind everything, but it did take me a while.

I am a fan of romance where the couple has some history and backstory—even if it was years ago. The fact Kinsley and Jasper have that foundation to build upon in the present makes the story that much sweeter, especially when you also consider all the drama happening around them.

Johnson packed a lot into this little story, which made it hard to put down and walk away from. For me, Tunnel Creek Ambush was the perfect combination of romance and suspense.

Tunnel Creek Ambush is a quick read with plenty of suspense that packs quite a punch. There is almost zero romance, with the exception of the epilogue, but there is plenty of clean suspense and quite a bit of action.

Kinsley is a wildlife biologist who has came home to put her aunt to rest and also study some local bats. The last time she was home she had recently lost her parents in a car accident and had broken up with her high school boyfriend, Jasper. She left town for school and never came back. It’s been years, but Jasper is an amazing and forgiving man, so when Kinsley needs his help he is right there by her side.

There was one random fact that stuck out to me in Tunnel Creek Ambush, and that’s all of the vehicles that were harmed or vandalized in this story, to the point that I actually felt bad! I told you...very random...

It’s been awhile since I’ve actually audibly squealed at something I’m reading, but this actually happened at one particular scene near the end of the story that involves a snake. I don’t do well with snakes in general, but the detail in this part had literal chills running down my spine. Great writing!

The ending was a little too quick for me, but it ends on a super sweet and happy note, so I’m not upset about it. I just wish there was more! This was a quick read that packs quite a punch in its pages, and I enjoyed every suspenseful moment.
