Science was the key that opened my doorway to adventure, and to writing. Soon after getting my Masters degree in biology, I began writing nonfiction for young people. I looked for opportunities to interact with scientists who were researching subjects that interested me, and over the years I was invited to join a number of scientific expeditions.
I've been fortunate to work with scientists in many different locations and environments, from tropical oceans to Antarctica's frozen interior, from active volcanic peaks to the deep ocean floor. Many of my books have grown out of these incredible experiences.
I especially like to write about new discoveries in science, to take my readers into strange new worlds where they come face to face with all sorts of fascinating creatures.
In parallel with writing science-focused nonfiction for the school, library, and trade markets, I have also written dozens of science content-based books aligned with grade school and middle school curricula, primarily for National Geographic, Sally Ride Science, Millmark Education (now Summit K12), and Core Knowledge.

Juliet loves animals and hopes to one day be a vet like her mother. Her best friend Chelsea loves grooming animals, so when the local pet motel closes down, the two girls decide to start their own practice. Their first clients include a cat, guinea pig, parrot, two rats, a python and a rooster and they each create a bit of chaos for the girls. When the rats go missing and the snake has a odd bump in its middle, Juliet must take action before the owners pick up their pets!
The Great Pet Plan it an exciting start to this early reader series. Young pet lovers will enjoy the hilarious antics and creativity of this budding vet and her loyal best friend as they navigate the world of animals. There is never a dull moment in this story and children will learn a bit too -- like how to clip a guinea pig's nails, for one. A fun quiz at the back of the book reinforces the animals facts they've read about so they can figure out if they too are "nearly a vet".
