Steve Rogers (Chris Evans) is a failed military soldier. He has been ridiculed and mocked most of his life due to his lack of stature and size. After failing over and over to enter the military with falsified records, Rogers is noticed by Dr. Abraham Erkskine (Stanley Tucci) who is working at developing an army of super-strengthened soldiers. Rogers finally enters the military after he is injected with a serum that makes him super strong. The experiment works and Rogers must go to battle for America after being transformed into Captain America. Very good with many fantastical turns. There were at least 12 uses of vulgarity throughout. Highly recommend.

Steve Rogers is a scrawny wannabe soldier with a big heart -- which is the exact thing that makes him ideal for the Super Soldier program. After he becomes Captain America, Steve leads Allied soldiers into battle against the Nazi subdivision known as Hydra, led by the villainous and ruthless Red Skull.

Captain America has always been my favorite Avenger, and his origin story is quite possibly the best of the main group's first films. A mix of solid acting and storytelling blend together for an action-packed first adventure for the patriotic superhero, with strong performances from Chris Evans, Hayley Atwell, and Tommy Lee Jones in a pretty splendid showing as the gruff yet joke-cracking Colonel Phillips. There are a few pacing issues (and a few too many "highlight reel" type moments showing different missions of Cap's), but it doesn't take away from the highlights of the film. It feels like a blend of genres -- of course it's a superhero film, but with some flourishes of war films and even a sprinkle of Indiana Jones. Definitely recommended, especially for fans of the character and those wishing to delve into the MCU, it's a solid starting-off point.

Content Concerns: A fair bit of sci-fi action violence (there's also a bit of blood on display, including sprays after gunshots and a more gruesome moment where a character is thrown into a propeller blade). There are also a few scenes of alcohol use. There are a total of 13 profanities throughout the film (8 "h-ll," 2 "d-mn," 2 "-ss," and 1 "b-tch").
