Great "countdown" book that's planned after how many days before or after Christmas each bake is done. Also has a few nice recipes for foods to prepare, most, if not all, of which can be made ahead of time and frozen so as to not interfere with other seasonal bakes. Beautiful photos, only wish there were more of them (could have replaced the pictures of the contestants with pictures of food!). Since it's a British book, there are loads of fruit breads and cakes, puddings, and pies that aren't really my thing, but I did come away with a few wonderful recipes using Stilton, which is one of my favorite cheeses. I also liked the introductions to each section that talks about various Christmas traditions and were they came from - could have used longer passages of those as well. Beautiful book, but if you're buying because you're a fan of the TV show, be aware that it's only tangentially related to it.… (mehr)

Who doesn't love a Christmas cookbook? This particular Christmas cookbook comes with recipes from participants of a British reality TV cooking program. The food is somewhat different that what we are used to seeing here in the United States, however it is not too different that you would not enjoy all of the recipes. The Shepherd's Pie looks great, as well as the Pavlova! You really get into the holiday spirit while reading through this cookbook. There are Christmas decorations pictured throughout the book alongside the scrumptious picture of the various dishes. It is nice that they cover dishes for Christmas and New Year's Day. One note to those getting excited to read this book is that all of the measurements are in the metric system. Even so, this has given me so many ideas for things to bake during the upcoming holidays that look oh so delicious!
