"Vorrei che questo libro fosse letto come un romanzo", così l'autore presentava l'opera alla sua prima edizione, alla fine della prima guerra mondiale. Frutto di un'esperienza di viaggio vissuta nel 1916, questo volume si presenta effettivamente affascinante e fluido come un romanzo, ma la profondità spirituale che lo caratterizza lascia al lettore molto di più di una bella visione dell'India e della sua cultura. Quello di Keyserling è un percorso spirituale, è il viaggio di un "Proteo" che attraverso la conoscenza delle dottrine orientali, conosce la metamorfosi, si rinnova e amplifica la propria coscienza.… (mehr)
Not so much a diary as Keyserling's formal musings inspired by a world tour he began in 1911 as an effort to break out of a personal stagnation. A good deal of speculation about how varieties of geography, religion, government, and so forth affect human development, which is occasionally interesting but often turgid and reads a lot like "national character" gunk. Two volumes.

Versé en choses ludiques, profondes, et toutes simples, orientales et extrêmes-occidentales : l’Inde, le Japon, l’océan, la nuit, la végétation ou la Californie, au choix (ici, « la conscience de l'être recule, tandis que celle du devenir s’intensifie »). Un pépé grandiose. Sept sur dix (à cause du petit feeling « Pays et Merveilles » de Radio Canada, dans les années 50...).
