Okay, So in I was totally sucked in by an author sponsored Advert on Instagram back in 2023.. I started reading the book while camping, IRL distractions abounded and I finally finished the book in Q1 of 2024.

Unleashed is book 1 in Emily Kimelman's Sydney Rye Mystery series. I was caught immediately by the concept, dog walker turned detective after running afoul of a murder, it was just a little strange and nuanced unlike so many other series. The story was compelling and Joy, the female protagonist (NOT named Sydney Rye) was incredibly likable, the right amount of snarky, and tough as nails (hides her pain till she gets home kinda tough). By the time Sydney makes her first appearace in the final chapter, I was definitely hooked on the duo of Joy and her massive dog Blue.

I highlighted one of my favorite lines, it just stuck with me because me and gum are not friends.

"There are rumors that you found the body,"
she whispered, leaning toward me, attempting to create an intimacy between us. Her breath smelled like she'd been chewing bubble gum. A strange scent on a full-grown woman.

My only complaint is the time in which I found this book. Released in 2011, and the Sydney Rye series has grown seventeen more books since the release of Unleashed. At an avg of 300 pages per book, it would like dedicating myself to half of the Wheel of Time series.. For a slow reader like me, I guess I should just focus on the next book?

I received a free copy of this novel in exchange for my honest review. This is book 3 of the Sydney Rye series. Sydney Rye is on a dangerous mission to find a missing girl. She’s unsure of who she can trust as she seeks help from friends old and new. Emily Kimelman does an extraordinary job once again drawing us in to her dark mystery. This novel is a perpetual thrill ride, and page turner with great believable characters, location descriptions so realistic that you feel like you’re there. This is the kind of book I love getting into. If you don’t mind violence, a little sex and dirty language, then you will love the Sydney Rye Series!… (mehr)

Definitely worth the read

Sydney seems to find trouble no matter where she is, or should I say trouble finds her. Overall this was definitely a good read it definitely kept my interest piqued and there was a lot of Adventure going on here and also a lot of blood shed. I got this is a free read and I'm glad I read it my only problem is now I'll have to read the next book in the series but I'm not sure if I will buy it or not. All in all I would definitely recommend this book for anyone that's looking for action-packed adventure story.… (mehr)
