É sem dúvida a melhor história que li dentro do universo do jogo de cartas Magic the Gathering e tem a vantagem de ser antiga (1999), sendo uma das fundadoras do universo ficcional narrado do jogo. Aqui, a ascenção de Yawgmoth ao poder é lentamente e consistentemente construída, com os traços mais vilanescos de sua personalidade se confirmando aos poucos, antes da consolidação como um vilão extremamente maldoso, criador da Phyrexia e das abominações phyrexianas, bem como vetor da destruição dos Thrans (que aparecem, em "the Brothers War" como uma civilização perdida de Dominaria). Rebbec, nesse sentido, é uma personagem que muito contribui para esse arco, por sua relação ambivalente e de tensão sexual com Yawgmoth. E quem sabe algum dia alguma carta representando a planeswalker Dyfed será realizada? (imaginaria algo como tirar de fase criaturas, retratando a capacidade dela de abrir portais e levar entes comuns junto a ela pelo multiverso).… (mehr)

I love the Ravenloft novels, but it's true that they vary in quality and depth. Carnival of Fear was an unexpectedly sad and thought-provoking tale, not just a franchise cash-in. Instead of the undead, it focuses on the carnival freaks, which makes it even more saturated in the melancholy mood of gothic horror. The writing is not spectacular but solid, well-paced, and full of twists that keep you guessing. Out of the six Ravenloft novels I've read, this might be my second favorite. Recommended if you like gothic fantasy, carnival/circus horror, and/or moody moral tales.… (mehr)

This book wasn't very good, but I read on just to know the full story of Guild Wars 2.

Some thoughts:

Snaff was a great character
The relationships between the members of Destiny's Edge were really touching, the brotherhood between Rytlock and Logan, the father/daughter love between Snaff and Zojja

-I really hate Logan and Jennah's insta-love. He comes off as a complete doofus and she comes off as cold and manipulative. Their letters were super cringy and the dose of brainwashing from Jennah wasn't cool
-Eir didn't get much development, did she? She's definitely an interesting character but she was so stereotypically Norn it hurt.
-The last few chapters.. Logan leaves his friends to fail and possibly die but he evokes the name of Rytlock to a group of jailed Charr so they would join in his fight?! Rytlock could be dead at that very moment and Logan just uses his name so easily.

This book put me off on a lot of characters. I came in knowing that Logan left them at the end but I always figured he had a dire reason. He's just a lovesick, possibly brainwashed jackass...… (mehr)
