Collection of 31 essays on the academic work of Gottlob Frege (1848-1925), particularly his ontology, semantics, and logic. Three connected essays by Frege are included in translation as Appendices: "The Thought" [Der Gedanke], "Compound Thoughts" [Gedankengefuge], and "Foundations of Geometry" [Uber die Grundlagen der Geometrie].
Essays of and by Russell are included, with several sides of the Paradox argument. Klemke's essay on the strict realism of Frege's ontology (arguing that he is a Platonist), and Bergman and Dummett's articles on his Nominalism, are included. Can something have a property without being real? [159]
Interest in Frege's thinking -- he died without having been recognized -- much revived by Alfred Russell's, and Whitehead's, Principias. This work includes Austin's translation of Grundlagen, and Furth's work with the Grundgestze.
With a very small but workable Index. Seems to have the references to Russell, but Whitehead is not even listed.… (mehr)
