What's Michael? Well, he's a cat who seems to live all his nine lives simultaneously in alternate dimensions, where six pages at a time he is:
(a) owned by a variety of people and usually acts like a regular cat,
(b) sometimes thinks and dances a la Garfield and ~~shudder ~~ Cats,
(c) part of an ensemble cast of cats acting entirely like people as they satirize topics like professional wrestling,
(d) a side character in a running parody of "The Fugitive."

So he's multifaceted, let's say. And pretty reliably funny throughout the 500 pages compiled here from six volumes of adventures -- a hefty helping of humor.

I read some of these back in the 1980s when they first came to America, and I must say they hold up a hell of a lot better than the contemporary strips in the Complete Garfield volumes I read a few months back.

What the hell was that? The language is horrible! I get that they're trying to capture the american drawl accent, you know, the Southern American English but this is MANGA! I barely understood a thing, all of the words are misspelled, add the southern drawl to Japanese names and you get yourself a very confusing story! I'm trying hard to understand what I'm reading, I barely have time to get into the story and the artwork is hideous!

Well, that was my review for the first part. I gave the book 2 stars that by the end of the book went to 4 stars. The language and art grew on me, I found them hilarious. Now, I can't wait to see what will happen to "Hello"!… (mehr)

I love this series. The author is clearly a real student of cat behavior and captures cat body language beautifully. It's also funny, even if you don't have a cat. If you do and you have more than one, you'll may find yourself recognizing your own cats in the first story of this volume. I certainly recognized mine.
