Über den Autor

Nicole Krauss is an international best selling author. The History of Love (W.W. Norton 2005) won the William Saroyan International Prize for Writing, France's Prix du Meilleur Livre ?tranger, was named #1 book of the year by Amazon.com, and was short-listed for the Orange, Médicis, and Femina mehr anzeigen prizes. Nicole's first novel, Man Walks Into a Room, was a finalist for the Los Angeles Times Book Award for First Fiction. In 2007, she was selected as one of Granta's Best Young American Novelists, and in 2010 The New Yorker named her one of the 20 best writers under 40. Her most recent novel is GREAT HOUSE (W.W. Norton October 2010). Nicole's books have been translated into more than thirty-five languages. Krauss recently completed a Cullman Fellowship at the New York Public Library. Ein verloren geglaubtes, fast 70 Jahre altes Manuskript steht im Mittelpunkt dieses Romans. Leo Gursky hat es als junger Mann in Polen geschrieben, für seine grosse Liebe Alma. Nun lebt er als einsamer alter Mann in New York. Er weiss es nicht, aber das Buch überstand den Holocaust, wob andere Liebesbande: die 14-jährige Alma ist nach einer seiner Figuren benannt. Und sie ist auf der Suche nach ihm.

Nach vielen Jahren habe ich das Buch nun erneut gelesen und fand es wieder sehr schön. Leopold Gursky lebt in NewYork. Als junger Mann konnte er vor den Nazis fliehen, doch an sein einmal begonnenes Leben niemals anknüpfen. Seine Liebe Alma, seine Romane, sein Sohn, nichts davon konnte er nach dem Krieg erleben.
Alma ist 15 und lebt ebenfalls in New York. Auch sie ist einsam, der Tod ihres Vaters hat die ganze Familie in ein Loch gerissen. Ihren einzigen Freund verliert sie.
Am Ende treffen sich die beiden Hauptfiguren. Bis dahin ist es ein Vergnügen, diesen tief traurigen Roman zu lesen.… (mehr)

The History of Love von Nicole Krauss
As I never begin to read a book withour finishing it, I also finished this one. The characters and the stories of each ones life are difficult to follow, sometimes nothing seems to fit and make sense - frustrating.
