Rezensionen

A beautiful story of acceptance, breaking free, and gaining independence in a conservative environment. Some parts were boring and a bit confusing but overall it was a short, delightful read.

A simple story told in a heart felt way. The protagonist a paying guest with Joshi family is viewed through two mindsets of Tanay and Anuja.

It explores the state of their mind, their longings, desire attached with this nameless paying guest. The paying guest is introduced slowly with his characteristics, habits and his nomadic wanderer ways.

From what could have been a straight flat translation, Jerry Pinto translates this short novel into a beautiful fabric of words. It touches you to the core of the heart, at times your heart nudges you to be with Tanay and Anuja.

Reading Cobalt Blue i felt as if i was a part of some painting in process. I could actually see shades of blue, revolving around me. Novels should be like this, they should give you something and take back something from the reader.

"such colors, such colors. When you breathe out, i see red and yellow flashes in front of my eyes. When we're in the bath together, surrounded by a surfeit of steam, its a misty blue. When the sun is shining and we look at each other from a distance, and we smile, its white, a shining white. If i'm talking to someone and mention you, my face changes, its a dark blue. Dark brown when i call out to you, peaceful green when you call out to me." by Sachin Kundalkar (as translated by Jerry Pinto)
